Health Problems Associated with High Temperatures

  1. Dehydration: Extreme heat increases sweating, which can lead to significant loss of fluids and essential minerals. Dehydration can cause dizziness, weakness, and in severe cases, more serious complications.

  2. Heat Stroke: This is one of the most severe issues associated with high temperatures. It occurs when the body cannot cool down effectively, leading to a dangerous rise in body temperature. Symptoms include confusion, lack of sweating, hot and dry skin, and in extreme cases, it can be fatal.

  3. Sunburn: Prolonged exposure to the sun without adequate protection can cause sunburn, which is not only painful but also increases the risk of skin cancer in the long term.

  4. Respiratory Problems: High temperatures can exacerbate respiratory issues, especially in individuals with pre-existing conditions such as asthma.

Prevention Measures

To enjoy the Costa del Sol beaches safely during the summer, follow these tips:

  1. Hydration: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid alcoholic and caffeinated beverages as they can contribute to dehydration.

  2. Sun Protection: Use sunscreen with a high SPF and apply it generously every two hours and after swimming or sweating. Additionally, wear wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, and light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

  3. Seek Shade: Find shelter under umbrellas, canopies, or trees, especially during peak sun hours, which are typically between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

  4. Moderate Activities: Avoid intense physical activities during the hottest parts of the day. Opt for swimming or walking on the beach early in the morning or late in the evening.

  5. Watch for Symptoms: Be vigilant for signs of dehydration and heat stroke in yourself and others. If someone shows severe symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.
